Interesting that I can't get to his blog using Firefox. Works fine in IE7, but it launches a separate window to do so.

He used to have, on his web site, a video demonstration of how he does his work. Some of it, he claimed, was done in his garage. It was based on his video that I shot these images of my daughter, in our garage!

Edit to quote the correct message. The above work was based on Kevyn Major Howard's video. |
You've got a beautiful daughter there, David! Anything you'd like to share in terms of editing that you picked up in the video? |

Ummm... it's been awhile, but I don't believe these were edited. For a very long time, I've been putting the letter 'a' at the end of filenames when I edit the image. I can tell these were converted from raw, using RawShooter Premium by the naming style which has the "-01" on the filename. And I know I used Photoshop to reduce the size and add a border. But I think that's all that was done.
One thing I really liked was the light in her eyes ... and it's completely natural. We went out into our garage, opened the big garage door, sat her in the middle (back in the shade, beyond where the sunlight comes in), placed a white reflector in her lap to capture the light that was coming in from the garage door and shine it up into her face. That was it!
So the two white lines you see in her eyes are the garage door and the white reflector. If you look closely at her eyes, you can see me standing there back towards the garage door entrance taking the shot.

Thanks for sharing the info! The lighting is really great - I'll have to try that technique out when it's a bit warmer! |
