One of my photographs is going to be published. This is my first real deal, and I don't know how much to charge. Can you guys help me with this. Here are the details:

One time, non-exclusive United States, English and Spanish language Print and Electronic reproduction rights. Est dist. i Greater Than 40,000 up to 100,000

For what? A newspaper, book, magazine, calendar....

Most all periodicals have a going rate they pay, take it or leave it. The bigger it prints, the more they pay. Certain sections pay more than others in some cases. Unless its a unique photo (bush picking his nose with hillary's finger perhaps) then you don't have much room to negotiate.

fotoquote is THE source for pricing in a lot of the publishing world, but you have to pay for it (it's software you buy). Probably not worth it unless you do a lot of this work.

Unless they commissioned it, I would think it would fall closer to the stock end of things, pricewise. Ignoring micro stock (figure you want more than 50 cents for it) could be in the $300-2000 range. Most likely the lower end of that, $500-700.

But remember, that's just a semi-educated guess.
