Very difficult shoot because the model has never been in front of a camera before and was very hard to loosen up. He just stood there like a slab of wood. These are the ones where I was able to pull some level of life out of him.

I like these a lot. I've seen some of your other pictures as well. All I can say is ... "Dang, you're good!". So, why not become a member here at DPC so that you can post your photos here to get comments. One of the great things about DPC is how friendly and helpful the people are here.

I quickly browsed your other posts here, and I must say - while the others are good, these are fantastic! The light and contrast are excellent. I really like both B/W and color.

My only comment is that the second B/W is a little dark on the left side of the face. I'd use just a touch of dodging to bring in some detail:

Dodged version is on the left

Then again, maybe my monitor is just a touch dark. =)

Can you describe your lighting setup?

Boy, it's been so long, I don't even remember what you do. I think when you register here you have the option of a free membership (what you have now) or you can pay $5/month or $25/year. The second one is a bargain considering all the help you get here. I think you need to use PayPal to pay the membership fee, so if you don't have a PayPal account you'll need to sign up for one. (again, it's been awhile so I may be wrong, perhaps others can chime in with more accurate details)

I think the the retouch go either way...I like yours, but I also still like the my darker version, lol...But as for mylight setup I only own two strobes right now....I am speaking on the setup from my POV....So, there was one light on the right side at a little bit more than a 45 degree angle...The other was to the left behind the model at a 45 degree angle stopped down pretty low to just barely paint the rim light on him

Yes, maybe something inbetween... =)

I did something similar in this shot, but my rim light didn't turn out quite like I wanted it (I think it was too low), so I was curious if you used a light or a reflector. Thanks!

I just shot my light straight through a white umbrella....That may have been what diffused it just enough to fall how it did...But, I didnt use anything else
