Firstly, this photo is meant to be artistic. I have been playing with layers and layer modes to try and get a sort of hdr effect but not imitate it completely. What I want to know is does anyone like the effect or not? Any suggestions? I think I may have gone a bit OTT but hey, you dont know unles you ask. I like it but it's not something I would do very often, only to picture that lend themselves to the process. I can post the original if anyone is interested.

I kind of like the overall 'feel'of what you did in PP, and it's not OTT IMO (LOL). I think the drawback is that you loose too much contrast.

I think you are almost there , the color saturation is good , sharpness is good. Where it can be better (IMO) is to try to retain the details of the original in the top right zinc roof area and the left foreground area.

I like it. I am wanting to work with layers myself and look forward to learning a lot this year. Happy New Year to everyone.

Good to see I am not the only one who doesn't know a lot about layers...could this be my first new years resolution coming true???

This doesn't really look like an "HDR" effect to me but rather a "LucisArts Filter" effect to me ... but I like the effect.

I didn't want it to look like hdr, just a similar effect. What is LucasArt. Is it a programme or a set of filters.

//www.lucisart.com/

There is a site with a WHACK of Photoshop actions including one to simulate Lucisart but I cannot find it right now ...
