I don't like it. Why don't you just delete the unwanted words? Are you trying to make a point and think you are not saying the offending words?

It is used for many reasons. Example...an item listed for sale that has since been sold...letting viewers no that it has gone....or used in a humourous way...etc. If you don't like it...you don't have to use it.

Sometimes it confuses the entire thread if you remove something that is later referred to but not quoted. Strikeout allows you to show that you have changed your words/mind without changing the whole thread.
It can also be humourous, for example when you use it to change what you're pretending to think into what you're pretending to actually say.
I rarely use it, but I like :)
