Has there ever been, or will there ever be a "no editing allowed" challenge? The purpose of such a challenge would be to promote the pure art of the craft. There could be multiple themes both general and specific, i.e. nature, people, places, things, cars, dogs, cats, kids, houses, yada yada yada.............
your thoughts........................lp |

There have been a few under the minimal editing ruleset.
And a couple "Straight out of the camera" ones. |

Yes, we have them.. and we NEED more of them. If for no other reason, than to force me to clean my sensor :-D

Yep, that cheese makes a real mess of the sensor, especially that soft French cheese with a crust on!! |

The pure art of the craft has always included post processing, regardless they should run more of the minimal edit/straight out of the camera challenges since they are underrepresented.

Printing and therefore -> processing <- has always been part of the craft as you put it ...
Artistic and aesthetic decisions in "post development" are what happens after the shutter is pressed.
Back in the day (when my F3 was the hottest body ever built) we has a suite of tools and tricks that went with that Bessler 45C. (some of which would not be allowed under the "basic editing rules" here)
So I with all due respect don't get the fascination with SOCC ... cause that was NEVER the case with photography as I practiced it .

I've never had access to a dark room, and started in the late 70's with a Canon AE-1 (not AE-1 Program) shooting color slide film. So, what I shot was what I got. End of story.
My focus in photography was more to capture what is, rather than to create an image. To me, there is great challenge in trying to capture a very nice shot in the midst of distracting phone wires, dilapidated out buildings, etc. I think it trained me to "see" shots in the everyday of life.
I carried that attitude into digital, so dpchallenge was a rather rude awakening. Here, it is a very rare shot that does well without editing of some kind. There are days when the challenges feel more like editing challenges than photography. But, I have been learning (some times more successfully than others) to improve the image through the use (and sometimes abuse) of editing.
Sometimes, though, shooting for a challenge makes me feel lazy - I don't have to be so precise - I can clean up that later in editing.
I think there is great value in having out-of-camera challenges - it strengthens your ability to capture what you want using just your camera, your shooting skill, and a fair amount of luck.
I would argue that starting with a great image helps with the editing. Not everything can be fixed pp - at least not by a novice like me.

Any idea what folder she keeps that shot in? I went looking, but got distracted by shiny pretty things.

Oops, sorry. I had thought Scalvert was a guy but then I saw the name in the profile...
My apologies. I should know better, my mother in law is Lloyd and my ex's dad was Raychel. I ought to just use generics...
