I thought I had a really cool entry and then re-read the title and the description, so the title says "object" but the description says subject. Hmmmm - so it has to be an inanimate object? |

My interpretation was anything that is isolated by contrast. Could be a dog, cat or even a parakeet.

Anythig isolated by contrast... so a dog, a spoon, a wig, a muppet, whatever. Also, the contrast can be anything- colour, placement, light/shadow, or whatever else.
It seems a very broad subject and can be interpreted in quite a few different ways so just do what you like. |

But what about the whole "isolation" part... is that isolation from a scene or isolation from a background...
ie does it have to be something which you might not see lest there be the contrast in the scene... or can it just be a high key studio shot of something? |

How's everybody going with this challenge. There are now 92 entries but this thread has been very quiet. Normally there's much more talk about a challenge. Took a while for me to work out a shot and I am very happy with it (it will probably bomb now that I said that). I am afraid that it may be a bit of a cliche shot but anyway...... |

Seems like a free study to me. I almost always try to contrast my subject with the surroundings somehow.

This pretty much sums it up for me. There are a lot of ways to create contrast and I will be very open to different interpretations when I vote. |

Well, this is the last post in the Do you feel "isolated"? thread......8>) My post!
Great! Now you guys are making me second guess my entry!
I thought that the details of the challenge were pretty clear.
The heck with this, I'm staying put! LOL!!!
Actually, I think mine's pretty good.
Funny thing? I was out shooting something for a specific reason, and the shot that I entered for the Contrast Isolation contest just kinda happened, and I submitted it almost exactly as it came out of the camera.
How weird is that?

if you look at my last enry you will know that this is how i really feel. Not being photographer, for me its difficult to even know what is good photograph. Because of lack of knowledge in this field, i am forced to follow what my heart says. |

I can't think of a lot of things that wouldn't meet the challenge. Maybe a B&W shot of a crowd with everyone in focus and even lighting, subject being the only one looking at the camera or something. You could still make that work if you kept your subject in color and converted the rest to B&W, though. Hmm. A plain (albeit lovely) empty sunrise or sunset probably wouldn't work for me, either, or a landscape, although there could well be some creative way to make those work that I haven't thought of yet ;-)
I do expect the subject of the shot to be immediately obvious, but whether that's due to DOF, lighting, motion blur, color contrast, processing or whatever else the photographer can come up with will make no difference to me voting-wise.
And I like my entry, too, and predict ... a 5.5! |

I isolated with contrast in my my title??... yep another shoehorned image from me. Now the fun begins, I can sit back and watch how many DNMC comments I get. |

I completely agree with your second paragraph, which is why I think your first example would fit, too. I certainly hope people don't assume "contrast" means "light/dark" or "color/B&W" only. I also hope people don't go crazy on "a person isn't an object."

I'm in, I accidentally got a shot today that I love and I think fits. It'll probably get under 4.5, most of the shots that I love end up there. |

no problem Bobbie, be misunderstood is the fate of genes. 4.5 means that we will be very near in that challenge :D |

If I were going to shoot for the challenge, I would be thinking color contrast (complementary colors), rim lighting, extreme light/dark. You'd definitely want to go beyond the usual amounts.

I'm in for no other reason than I can be! And there be contrast, even. Whether it's sufficent or isolationist enough, I have no idea. I suspect and predict about a 5.3 if voters have had enough to drink prior to voting. |

IMNSHO, it'd be hard to fly justification for DNMC.....not that I think the trolls won't do it, I'm just thinking any justification would be lame.
