I have $350.00 to spend on a new lense, any ideas as to a quality lens I can get with only that much? Any help would be appreciated. I currently only have a Quantary 75-33mm with macro, and the kit lens that came with my Canon Rebel XTI 18-55mm. I am wanting to do portrait photography, but I want a lense that is good for portrait and other things.
Any help will be appreicated.

The Canon 50mm 1.4 would be a great portrait lens for the money. |

Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 SP. I'm sure I won't be the only person to recommend that to you on here. :)

Do you have a flash? You could get the Canon 50 1.8 and a 430ex for less than the $350. |

I think that is the flash I use, but it is not working anymore. Where can you get both of those for less than $350.00?
Thanks,

i would stay away from Sigma and Tamron, they constantly dissapoint. I would go for the 85 1.8. Also for about another $150 you could get the canon 100 f2.8 macro. Thats a great portrait lens as well as a great macro.

I will agree that the Canon macro 2.8 is a great lens, worthy of a L marking in my opinion. It will work well as a portrait lens but it is very long on the crop sensors and any indoor portraits are going to be a bit difficult if you are cramped for space. |

I would stay away from lower end lenses the Sigma's and Tamron's. So $350.00 is not a lot of money but its enough to buy a high end prime 50mm. Everybody should have a prime 50 in their kit. |

I disagree with this totally, as I'm sure many others will. The tamron 17-50 f2.8 and the 28-75 are FANTASTIC lenses. Not just for the money but overall, and you will hear this echoed on a lot of forums, and on a lot of sites too. I can totally recommend mine to anyone looking for a quality standard zoom.

I just got the lens you mentioned. The Canon EF 50mm lens--which offers a fast f/1.8 aperture--is an excellent lens for people who prefer a fixed focal length. It also offers an excellent color balance, and I got it at a deal price of $69

Well i just got the tamron 17-50 f2.8 and cannot recomend it enough. Read the reviews for yourself i could not find a bad one! It is ideal for landscape and portrait. You have to account for the crop factor due to your aps-c sensor so the lens is actually 27-80mm f/2.8 in 35mm terms. I was sceptical of third party lenses but i was not dissapointeed with this lens.
Hope that helps

Okay, since I already had the flash, I just bought the caon 50 1.8 lens. I will get it tomorrow, and I cannot wait. BTW, the $350.00 that I had to spend that I got for X mas, I bought a camcorder with last night, can't wait to use that either. THanks for all the advice, I think I will love this lens.
