I a getting ready to buy a flash for my Nikon D80. I am thinking of the sb400 and sb600. Is the 600 worth 100 dollars more than the 400. Any other brand suggestions also.
Thanks, Jeremy |

The 600 is a LOT more powerful. Kind of depends on how you'll be using it. If you have to throw light a long ways, it's worth it. If you'll be using it closer-in, not necessary. If you will be mostly bouncing light from ceilings, especially high ones, it's a plus.
I have the 430EX for Canon, and chose that over the 580EX because I don't use flash much and not at all in wide-open situations.

Thanks bear, I am leaning towards the 400 becuase all I do are indoor photos of people bouncing it off of the ceiling. Unless someone can convince me differently I am not spending the extra 100 dollars.
Thanks again Bear, Jeremy |

I don't believe you can use the SB-400 off camera in commander mode like the SB-600 and 800 . That alone makes the 600 a no brainier for me. I have 2 800's and a 600 and can do some really cool stuff off camera.
I all you want to do is flash and bounce light on camera then just get the 400 but the 600 allows for more creative lighting options.

There are a couple of other differences. The
sb-600 have a wider angle range compared to the
sb-400 which is fixed at 57 degrees. Also the SB-600 swivels the head which is handy for when you turn the camera to portrait and still want to bounce the flash.
Just food for thought.
