Hi all I have this cam of mine, and the more I learn here the more I meet it's limitations. I am looking to buy a new better one in the future, I find it hard to make a choice. Money is an issue. What I would like is for you people to tell me a few cameras that are best in performance 4-5 mpixels, good zoom and macro, and everything a good cam needs, but still mentain a reasonable price (not cheap but not expensive also 500-1000$). Thank you.

Hi! If you go to the "learn" menu above, choose "cameras" you can look at the cameras in alpha order. Once you select a camera, you can see some of the pix taken on this site with that camera and/or click to see the owners of a camera and their portfolios.
edited to say: Whoops! I didn't read that dtouch had already said the same thing!

The sony f717, or the minolta A1 would both be in that price range, have most of what need included (except extra memory and battery) and both are very good cameras... |

I've personally handled and tested the Fuji S7000 and I think it has a great set of features for its price. Some would shoot it down for its image quality though... :(
See my S7000 samples
I've also tested the
Olympus C5060 but didn't like the way it handled that much.

If you can't manage a Digital Rebel or high-end Sony, the Canon Powershot G-series is tough to beat. There are a disproportionate number of G2, G3 and G5 users on this site. You'll have plenty of image controls and a good zoom range to work with. You can get a Powershot G5 for under $500 (I bought one last night from DBuys.com for $466). We have a Sony F707, Olympus 3030, and Nikon Coolpix 5000 at work, but I prefer my lower-res Powershot G2 to any of them. The Nikon 5700 is good too, but tougher to master. |

Consider the Olympus C-5060 WZ also. What kind of photography is your main interest? There are many new models coming out this time of year. Prices on the existing models will be coming down in the next few months. Don't be in a hurry. Learn as much as you can from your present cam. There are many, many fine cameras available that may fit your needs without going straight to the top of your price range. |
