Um, lots of people have been complaining/asking in the forums for more technical challenges.
Looks like we've got one.
Not sure what to do now . . .

This seems to be similar to the one we had not long ago about standing out..... |

There are color contrasts, lighting contrast, rim lighting, shooting a dark item against a light background (not necessarily a studio background) light item against a dark background...
Hopefully will see some excellent photography in this challenge. Slightly difficult, but definitely a chance for people to learn!

Gonna b e hard to shoehorn a landscape into this one LOL. Not that it can't be done, but for most landscapes the entire image IS the subject, so...

Unfortunately, it looks like one of those Icelandic night shots of a hugh rock sticking out of the water may work. :-(

Challenge Details :: Object Isolation by Contrast
Challenge Details: Use some form of contrast in your photo to isolate your subject.
Do you think it has to be an "object", or will a living subject do as well?

Sounds like an interesting challenge. I haven't entered one in a few months so I really should start entering some. But for this one i'm not 100% sure i understand what to do =S |

I think a living subject counts as an "object."
I guess my best interpretation of it is make your subject stand out from the rest of the picture. If it stands out, then you are automatically using some kind of contrast, right? |

I do not see object in the details so to me all forms of subject will fit.
Dictionary: isolate, Place apart or alone - Policy of not participating in-
This to me says your suject is the weaker part of the photo, not the strongest, and is isolated by the contrast.
Subject the flowers isolated by the contrast. [thumb]625508[/thumb]

This one did not do well in the Ebay challenge, probably for DNMC reasons, but I think it would fit this one well.

So it would appear that both sides of the contrast can be interpreted.

It comes a little close to the "Alone in a crowd" challenge a couple of weeks ago imho...or it'll be interpreted the same I expect...?

Great! Now you guys are making me second guess my entry!
I thought that the details of the challenge were pretty clear.
The heck with this, I'm staying put! LOL!!!
Actually, I think mine's pretty good.
Funny thing? I was out shooting something for a specific reason, and the shot that I entered for the Contrast Isolation contest just kinda happened, and I submitted it almost exactly as it came out of the camera.
How weird is that?
