I was hoping to wake up to a 7.4 but woke up to this 5.5 ughh

I just seem can't find "unique shot" for most, if not all :(
Doing ok, but not good as I thought, so... unless if this will be really low scoring challenge, there might be another heart break for me :/
Score is about 6.+ low side. |

I got the same comment. I tested my image prior to submitting it to several of my friends and they said it looked ok. I think that individual needs to calibrate their monitor

| I made one comment about a photo being a bit dark. But the funny thing is, my monitor is calibrated, and lots of times I'm the one getting the 'too dark' comments :P |

after only 4 challenges and each getting voted lower than the previous and spending all day yesterday working on my entry for this one, i'm officially discouraged. i don't hold much hope that this is going to go up significantly.

I'm offically gutted.
I've entered 2 more challenges. I've made a decision that if the next two (and this) don't yield better scores or at least improve on what I already have attained on DP (as I know I have improved) then I'm going to leave the site... because my taste obviously doesn't marry with the taste of the majority on here. |

Oh, and  desertoddity, do not become discouraged! My very first challenge didn't even break 4.0, I got a sub 5.0 score just last week, yet with the help of many talented and good people, I have 10 6+ scores, and the lowest of the five on my profile page is a 6.2632. You WILL improve, and there are really a lot of great people whose help is just an ask away.
I'm just about to upload another entry bringing my total entries in process to 5, and yet sometimes a week or so will go by and I don't even feel like I can shoehorn an entry.
If you can hang in there here at DPC, you can deal with ANYTHING in the real world! LOL!!!

i think i just bit off more than i can chew with this advanced editing thing. i got overly confident and now i'm being greatly humbled. i think i'll lay off for awhile and vote and comment and read the forums and practice and learn.

Well, don't be too quick to back off. You heard the old saw about the young man on a corner in New York?
He's there for his first time and he got disoriented, so he stopped a passerby and asked, "How do I get to Carnegie Hall?"
The passerby just smiled and said, "Practice, son....practice!"
The only way to get better at this hobby/profession/passion/art/craft/whatever is to shoot, shoot, shoot!
You'll get a lot of crap, but after a while you'll start to notice what you do and the things you like.
Another really good way to sharpen your eye is to vote on as many challenges as you can.
When you look at 200+ images that are trying to express a similar theme, you'll unconsciously start to pick up little details that help you. You'll notice hot spots from overexposure, shallow depth of field, bokeh, and a host of other things I had not had as strengths of my own until I got here even after over 25 years of dinking around as an amateur hack photographer.
