Hi guys,

I'm halfway designing a front cover for a DVD. It's going really well.

Thing is, the title text uses blending modes like bevel/emboss, outer glow and contour etc, but when I flatten the image (or merge visible) at the end, these effects disappear and the text reverts to flat (and boring) text.

Is there something special I need to do with the text to make it retain it's effects after the flattening? I'm working in 16 bit mode and i've tried everything I can think of. I don't want to remove these effects but I'm having a hard time...

Can anyone help?

I'm not sure, but I think you have to rasterize the text (turn it into a bitmap) before applying those effects if you want them to survive flattening. As long as the text is editable, it has not been rasterized.

A better way to do this, incidentally, is to do the art in CS2 and the text and any graphics in Illustrator or CorelDraw, tools that are designed for this sort of work. But that may not be an option for you.

I just tried a test to see if 16-Bit mode would affect it, and no, it didn't.

Here's a workflow for adding text:
With your image in a single layer, select your text/font tool and have at it. Then in the layers palette box, right click, select blending mode, then in that popup, make your styles choices such as bevel, emboss, etc. but make sure that the original blending mode (on top) is set to normal. The warp is also accessible from the right-click menu here as well. When done, you should be able to flatten the image.

Ah hah, thanks a million for the replies :) That's why I love this place...

Anyways, what I did was rasterize the text, reapply the blending things, and then it flattened alright. The flattening wasn't prefect though (it shrunk the outer glow a bit) so I enlarged it before the flatten to balance it out.

Thanks for your help guys :) Always appreciated.
