Leroy did you do the image by hand or was all filter generated. The thing that I like about is the the depth of the paint strokes it almost looks 3D.

OK... the paint strokes were all generated by the filter Alien Skins Snap Art. I did add Smart Sharpen to make the strokes more crisp. I also used Match Color to give it the same color scheme as Van Gogh's "Starry Night" :-)

The $199 price tag for is cheaper then Corel Painter x + it's a Photoshop plug-in. Do you get a lot of control in the process and can you manually pick brushes and paint with it?

You have lots of controls with bunches of preset styles. As far as sliders go, you have a LOT of control, but there is no way to manually paint.

You can, however, do it on a duplicate layer and then control the transparency of the filter or use layer masks to bring certain parts back.

IMHO . I liked the first one a lot better to me the image actually looked like it was painted. The second Image (above)looks like a filter placed over the top of a photo. The Subject doesn't seem to be "distorted" enough like paint and the "crackle" is overpowering.

Nice image though, just not crazy about the intended paint process

I'm not fond of the water color either... I much prefer the Oil painting filter. Ofcourse, I much prefer oil paintings.

I think in the end, if you are a serious "artist" you should probably go with Corel Painter

True, but ya know... even with the retail cost of Corel Painter and a computer, it's still probably less expensive than actual art supplies! :-D
