My dad just bought this (Panasonic DMC-TZ3) for $219 and I am just wondering what you guys and gals think of it. I have read some reviews but it is always nice to get unbiased opinions. Thanks in advance!

If it wasn't for the noisy sensor and lack of manual controls it would pretty much be a perfect point and shoot camera. Has a fantastic Leica lens and a huge zoom range. But if you need to use anything higher than the minimum ISO, you can forget having decent shots.

The noise is not an issue for your average amateur, nor is the lack of full-manual capability. We have a much different set of standards here in DPC. It's a wonderful camera, and I'm sure he'll love it.

As an aside, I'm always amused when someone says, of a Point 'n Shoot camera, that it lacks manual controls: if you want to shoot in manual mode, then it ain't a point 'n shoot anymore, is it? I mean, the whole POINT of a P&S is to shoot in full-tilt auto and not waste any time or effort thinking :-)

Except for freakazoids like US, of course, who want a liddle-bitty camera we can shove in a pocket that gives us all the control we so cherish in our honking-beast dSLRs...

I just bought the panasonic tz3 after my casio exlim 500's lcd screen went up. I read severl reviews and everyone seems to love the camera.

I take alot of photos at Ravens games and the wide angle shots are great for football. I love the zoom as well. But i havent been able to get sharp vivid image. All the images seem to be "greyed" and dull. My friends and i went on a trip to the dolphins game and their canons took shots with very nice color compared to mine.

Anyone out there have a tz3 that can help me get the settings right? ive been trying to set the max iso and now wonder if i should change the color setting from normal to vivid. any suggestons?

I would love a camera like that as long as it has a nice size print..all is good.

Bear..I bought myself a P&S but can't figure out how to use it in that mode so I am using manual mode. Why can't I just take a snap shot. :-(

I have a Panasonic FZ5 and the noise was definitely an issue with that high zoom Leica lens, but nothing that can't be cured with Neat Image or Noise Ninja. I also had the issue of the grey color (my children looked like zombies), and the settings in the camera can be changed with a more vivid mode (Voila!...Now they look Oompa Loompas! Hehe...j/k) Actually the color improves quite a bit if you play with the color mode settings.

P.S. Note to Bear_Music: Robert, I love to use my DSLR as a P&S, but please don't tell my mentor, Gordon...

Shhhh...he frowns on that...;-)

If the color doesn't improve...PM me and I will go through the settings with you by comparison from my own camera.
