Anyone willing to help me pick a textures entry? Standard rules apply; you're free to laugh at my "style," but you aren't supposed to vote on it. PM me.

Always. :)

Ernie: add me to the pile sending support. I hope your memories carry you through this time of loss.

Rob, I sent you a PM. Jeffrey, I'm about to stick some crap (and I use that term literally) in the team thread, if you're willing to give me some advice!

Oh, and my Christmas present? A freakin' virus on my computer that's eating my photo folders. I was working on something for textures, went to save, and it says "That folder doesn't exist". It was the folder I was working in. Seems when I was doing a favor for a guy I work with and giving him some pictures to take home, his USB drive infected my computer. Argh. I can't even back up to the portable hard drive I have, since apparently it infects via USB devices. ARGH. And if I have to clean the computer, I don't have my copy of Photoshop with me. I'm hosed. Bah. Humbug. And several other very very bad words. Bad words indeed.

Edit to add - what the puck will I do with myself if I can't take pictures and use Photoshop???????

Some nice IT guys are trying to fix my 'puter for me. With luck it'll still be operational. :-)

And Raish, I'd love to eat that message but I can't get to it from here (it's blocked by the network I'm using). Hope it was good, though!

Oh, and Peter, dear, I know this is kind of a personal question - you needn't answer - but how long have you been neuter?

Just a Christmas shot with one of "my" cheerleader kids and her grandfather.....the hair and beard are real.

Seasons Greetings everyone!

I seem to have had a run of grace lately....I currently have five entries in either judging or submission and I'm really delighted with all of them.....REALLY delighted.

I've got my fingers crossed, and plan on sacrificing a chicken......sandwich to the gods that I may break my curse of never having broken 6.0 in a Free Study.

I'm not sure what happened exactly, but I seem to have reached a place where my photography is becoming more about its evolution, and my progression, than whether or not it'll fit a challenge. All five of these entries were not taken for any challenge......go figure!

It should be blocked as it's a site for downloading pirated software.

It's probably best not to talk about neutrality, as extremists tend to see it as a cowardly strategy.

And happy thingies, y'all...

Merry Christmas to all suckers, and may the New Year be prosperous and peaceful (especially for Deb, and others in harm's way).

Thanks to all the volunteers, but I've picked a winner(?), rheverly. Thanks for your feedback, Mr Bruce.

'K, now I need a volunteer - anybody around that wants to tell me what to enter and what not to enter, in exchange for not having to vote on what I probably shouldn't enter? :-)

Email me what you've got Deb. Though, I don't know how good my opinion is, lol!

Send it on over Deb; I'll give you my usual, sucky advice.

Sent you both an email - thanks for helping!

This may be a first (and last) for me. I have 6 photos entered, 2 in voting and 4 in queue. I must be a glutton for punishment. I think I am in for a long week or 2.
12/25/2007 01:37:11 PM · #169
That's impressive! I only have one in voting and one in the queue (Free Study). Working on something for the open challenge, though. Now to decide which open to enter...

I was lucky enough to have something to enter in stupid gifts......

I didn't enter the challenge, but the shots I took for the fairy tale challenge were for "Little Match Girl" too. My oldest son was my match girl.

tee-hee...I was my Little Match Girl! I was just doing a typical snaffles thang, anticipating the tidal wave of soft-focus fairies and so decided to go with perhaps the only fairytale that doesn't have a happy ending...in other words has never been Disneyfied!

Ernie, I am so sad to hear about Siron. :( Tough though it may have been, you did make the right choice and send her on to fields of catnip full of butterflies. |I'm sure she will send you another furry friend soon.

*HUGS*

Everyone, have a wonderful Xmas and let's see what stupid gifts I can shoot!!!

Actually, in the original versions very few of the classic fairy tales have "happy endings". It's one of the great scandals, IMO, the way the tales have been bowdlerized for modern kids. Here's a modern, but unexpurgated, translation:

You're right, Bear, most of them did have fairly gruesome endings ... I think Little Match Girl probably survived unbowdlerized...

I think that that is exactly what Susan is saying. That most fairy tales have been "Disneyfied" - turned into bubblegum and candyfloss, happily ever after versions of their original stories.

I doubt many of the stories actually resemble their originals in more than title and character names.
