heh...
I found out, after being on the phone this morning with Dell that lojack was installed in my computer, but I did not know it. I experienced a brief flurry of hopeful feeling, until I contacted lojack and found out that um, at some point I was supposed to actually activate it. And since I didn't know it was there to begin with... So, just in case no one else knows this, all Dell XPS laptops (at least those, don't know about others) get lojack installed, apparently. No charge for activation, so I understand, but you do have to activate(register, really) or they can't help you.
Speaking of Kojack, I could really use a lollipop right about now - I've had a very stressful and tiring day.

Karen, I'm so very sorry. Thanks for the reminder. I should hit the remote lock feature. Will do so as soon as I finish this comment.
Jeffrey, way to go! Keep this up and you'll be doing an awful lot of commenting!! |

For those of you who may be unaware, this person ripped off pretty much the entire active population of DP Challenge, and was so lazy, or arrogant, that he didn't even change the DPC ID numbers.
R@t B@st@rd
He's got 'em up on a blog for viewing....you can post your displeasure if you like.
These scumbags that steal work are really something.....I probably would have let him use my image for proper credit and referrals, but he didn't even attempt to ask.
BTW, I think Karen deserves some kind of special TS nod.....she gets her laptop ripped off, and she's concerned so much about her DPC mates that she takes the time to PM them and clue 'em in!
Karen, I'm soooooooo sorry for your loss. I'm more saddened by your realization that the place you live isn't very nice any more.
Where I live, you can still leave the keys in the car overnight.

Well this is just another good example of why DPC MUST start to provide an option for us to choose if we want to have our images watermarked after challenge voting is over. Lucky for me I did not see any of my images on that thief's site. I guess it is one good thing about not being so great...no one will even steal your images! hehehe
thank you so much for the heads up on this Karen. I hope that the good karma you recieve from tipping us off to this theft helps you recover your laptop from your personal theft. |

Just a little bit of trivia,
Did anyone know that Judi has released a book on verse with vision? see her home page.

I have posted comments. The pictures are not linked to high def. versions, for what it's worth. I saw one with a watermark and a few with Steve Bloom's name coming up in the file name in a rollover.
Karen - ouch - (several terrabites of expletives deleted here, ed) |

Oh, that's really cool :) One day I'll make one with fire.
Anyway, I think we should petition posthumous to make one. It could be hailed as the TS holy writ :p
I'd buy one! |

Yes, and as with most holy writ, it will not address contemporary problems and people can interpret and re-interpret it endlessly to say whatever they want. Thanks to raish for the plug. That link can be the Synoptic Sayings Source. If your appetite's been whet, you can try the Pauline Epistles:
My History of Mental Illness
That one's got illustrations, but no photographs. I better get crackin' and create some more canon fodder for y'all!
Karen,
I am helpless to help. I can only quote scripture. This verse is about loss, and what remains.
Ghosts
Something moves the reeds,
nudges your shirt off the porch rail.
A black bird on the pier.
I think of telling you.
It's gone.
I feel your hand on my back
and expecting your face at my shoulder,
I turn my head.
I have never been to this inlet before,
but I have seen this water.

lord, you have no idea what reading that did to me....thank you
I had a voice recorder in that bag, a recorder I used over the last several years to capture natural sound wherever I happened to be. One time I stood beneath an underpass while over 50 barn swallows swirled all around me, their calls echoing off the concrete - it was an amazing find. And stupidly I have not downloaded the files in a long time, and this, as many others, are lost to me now.
I think of my recordings as sound photographs, unique snatches of the world. It's like they stole an album of my personal photos. They can have the computer, I don't care, but boy, I sorely want those sounds back. |

Karen, I can't imagine the feeling, someone that close, things close to your heart gone. I don't even have words (but I'm glad Don does, they're wonderful).
Jeffrey, you go with those scores! We're pulling for you!
Everyone, the "copycat" is in Serbia, as is his webhost. I would say limited to no chance of having them forcibly removed, but we can annoy him. He didn't take any of mine, of course, but still . . .
And today I got caught in a rainstorm, but I was prepared, had a plastic-y rain thing on, my camera underneath, a lens in the pouch. But the wind came from the side, hard; by the time my ten minute walk from class to my office was done, one side of both legs of my jeans was soaked (I had a pair of dress pants in the office, so I was comfortable while my jeans dried). But then, I realized that the side-rain had gotten into the pouch, where it got into the Sigma 75-200 that I absolutely love (f/3.8 throughout, pretty quick focusing, very sharp, lovely vignette at 200mm); I "owned" that one (I'm the only one who used it). Now it's gone. Water all through it. And I understand that with lenses, they're easy to get apart and clean, but impossible to get back together. I'm heartbroken; I got this for £15 ($30) shipped off of eBay. I'm going to miss it.

Bruce, that sucks. And not in the good way. :-( I'd say it might be worth trying to get it dried, cleaned, and reassembled. Take it to an older, established camera shop where someone will relish the opportunity to make it right. |

That's terrible, Rob - I know you were really happy to have gotten that lens. Like Deb said, don't give up hope yet - take it to someone and see what they can do. |

Oh Bruce(Rob) that is a devastating feeling. I hope you can find somewhere that can dry and fix it up for you. |

Don, I just read your illustrated poetry booklet at
My History of Mental Illness
My God, I am really impressed. I had no idea you were such a wordsmith. The lines about Anne Boleyn were particularly well rendered. I hope you continue to seek venues in which to publish your poetry.

If I remember correctly...someone from TS recently purchased some extension tubes for doing macro work. Can they please send me a pm and let me know how they are making out with that, and if it was worthwhile? I have ordered a set of extension tubes and would be interested in learning from your experience.
thanks,
Ernie

By the way, an unpaid advertisement - if you liked the snippets of FLIE's work in the booklet, order yourself a copy. There's more, and it's good. |

I would, but I'm going to be away from my computer for a few hours (gotta pick up my boy, make dinner, etc). If you still need a fourth or fifth opinion, you can PM me for my email address. I will be online after about 8pm Central time.
