Maybe we should have a Return from Exile Welcome Party at the oasis? Cocktails and palm trees galore. |

I very much like Wildcard's suggestion that we all become barn cats, even if Fearless Leader does not go into exile... |

What happened -- :)
I saw your post in here and went digging through the ticket archives to find out what was going on. I remembered you asking at one point, and I thought it had been given the go ahead.
Soooooo, I asked about it, Langdon saw what had happened and he posted them.
There was no malice or ill-feeling in *not* posting them, just an oversight and mis-communication. |

This past Monday, HipyChik and I went out to the thumb in Michigan and did some shooting. The temperature was numbing cold (15F and very windy) but we had a good time and got a lot of images. I have a lot of processing to do but here are a few of them.

I completely believe you and that is why I'm not sending Bob and Jayson (The Enforcers) after you.
Yeah, so it looks like I'm coming back because how else can I use my Tutorial Discount?? mwahahahahaahahaha
oh, and I have one important thing to say. It is something you should all meditate long and hard on:
Men have hormones, too. |

Don, glad things were resolved and that it was just an oversight. And even more glad that we'll still have our barn feline leader.

Hey guys and gals, I just got back from my very first weigh in at Weight Watchers. And I have to let you know I'm pretty excited. I lost 7.2 lbs. this week. And I really wasn't hungry. And here's the biggest thingy ... I don't miss my Coke addiction (yes, cola).
Woooooooooooooooooooohoooooooooooooo. |

I was wondering where those 7.2 pounds came from... |

Something fun to think about :)
Just had a look at the thread about whether a DPC revolution is about to start. Anyway, so...
Online communities establish. They grow. They establish norms, social rules, communication guidelines. Every once in a while those norms are overthrown. And the people form social groupings, those sub-communities form their own norms, there are arguments and conflicts of values between members. Misbehaviour results in social exclusion, whereas good behaviour results in praise, and personalities and relationships are communicated across.
The interesting thing about this, for any ambitious budding sociologists, is that online communities form perfect little miniature models of real societies, and all the social dynamics you get in cities and countries also play themselves out in full view in cyberspace.
A mistaken criticism people make is that "you're wasting your time on something that isn't real". Cyberspace is very real though. Real people, real communication, real dynamics. It has limitations, for sure, but it's not open to being shrugged away that easily. It provides real contact, and frequently, real support.
Anyway, some questions:
- What are the limitations of cyberspace compared to society? What are the limitations of society compared to cyberspace?
- What is the effect of the existence of cyberspace? How is it changing the world? Is it altering society in any way? How about human relations? Support networks?
- What is the positive impact? What is the negative impact?
Haven't a clue about the answers. It's a sociology study waiting to happen though :)
Anyway, just thought I'd share the questions...

Only in cyberspace can a guy like me get a guy like Jeffrey to put on a tux and serve me exotic drinks on a tray.
Cyberspace rocks!
Now I have to go to bed so I can drag my flu-heaving head to Drone Unit 12 tomorrow morning and sludge through 8 and a half hours. Cyberspace, take me away!! |

Don, thanks for accepting it wasn't a conspiracy. Takes a big man, hormones or not. But for the record, I look damn good in a tux:

Now purple, it's funny that you posted at this particular time. I've just been running around my agency using DPC as an example of an online community.
For those of you who haven't been here for more than a year, TS (with help from others) has done two amazing things:
1) Bought flowers for jerseygenie when she landed in the hospital here
2) Bought a new camera for klstover when hers broke
In both cases, people sent me real money via PayPal. That kind of trust only develops over time. Of course, *I* knew I deserved that trust, but I was impressed by how many folks who knew me only as a bunch of forum posts granted it.
Then again, one only has to read any of the TS threads to know we're all real people genuinely sharing building a community.

This is what happens when you make a conscious decision to do something that you know ain't gonna go over well. And just for THAT, I'm going to enter the shot in Birds that will score poorly, but may tickle a few fancies. Believe it or not, those high-scoring folks on my DPL team picked it, with the caveat "You know this won't score well, but..." Heh.
Should I ever get internet at home (nothing works as planned, ever), I'll stick some other bird shots in my portfolio - I had a pleasurable trip to the little lake in Wiesbaden and shot geese and stuff.
And Don, I meant to tell you that the tutorial thing is usually a matter of they just get lost or overlooked. The one I turned in that eventually got posted was kind of in limbo for three or four months - so as much as you'd like to think so, it's not you. :-) |

Sorry to butt in I have a problem with my Canon 350D, the light mirror that you see when interchanging lenses has come adrift, I placed it back in position but as soon as I release the shutter it moves and drops out again. can anyone come up with repair suggestions.

Deb, I lived in Germany for a couple of years when I first got out of high school. I have often wondered what "my" little town looks like now. I would love a trip back someday. If you are ever looking for a nice day trip and want to see a town inside of a castle, Budingen in really nice, and not far from where you are.
Weisbaden was one of the places my friends and I used to visit. I had not thought of that place in years. |
