Take a picture where the image area is cropped to a perfect circle.
Obviously this would require special rules. |

Well, I was thinking that the image area would be circular, which would be illegal under normal rulesets... so it would be more like this only with circles rather than squares. Just a different way to look at composition. Obviously there would have to be a rectangular background, the color of which could be specified to simplify things. |

excuse my ignorance but how do you crop in a circle? |

Well, it would essentially come down to putting a circular mask over the image or using a lens that vignettes severely.
For instance, see these. Nye uses a lens with an image circle smaller than his film frame, but the same could be done in post. |

could be a good idea, probably the right choice is beginning with an image with a square crop and in a second time create the ring. |

otherwise, if you use photoshop, the rectangular marquis tool can be changed to a circle or oval form. just right click on the icon in the toolbox, and change it to the circle shape. to get a perfect circle, hold down the shift key while you're selecting, that will keep all sides even. if you don't use photoshop, then i don't know what to tell you :) |
