Images on the internet can get ripped off, we all know that. A copyright notice, logo, or signature can help and its sooooo easy!!!

Here's how to create your signature brush with PhotoShop:

Write your name as nice as possible on a white piece of paper. Now scan it or photograph it. Save it and open it in Photoshop. Double click the thumbnail in the layers palette to make it layer zero.

Next, use the Magic Wand tool (W on the keyboard) and click on the white area. Now click delete on the keyboard. You are left with just where you wrote your name. If you wrote it multiple times select the best one and erase the rest.

Alternately you can type your name, logo, whatever, and follow the same steps above.

Now to save it: Click on Edit > Define Brush Preset. Give it a name, when the box comes up, and click OK.

To test it open up an image. Make a new transparent layer. Click the Brush Tool. (B on the keyboard) Scroll down to the bottom of all 'brushes' and you will find the one you just made. Make sure of your foreground color as well as opacity percentage. Click once and you have it.

By using it on a transparent layer you can size it, rotate, or add a style to it

Now, what to do with your new brush. You can stamp an image in a discrete place as to not be intrusive, like this:

or if you are more worried about copyright theft you can place your stamp in a more obvious location like this:

Try your brush with different blending modes too - Overlay and Color Burn both give nice results.

Now, go forth and brush! :)

glad you put something up about this. This rocks.

Thanks for your help the other day on this. So easy to do and easy to use over and over.

Love the brush tool idea. Never thought of that. Might want to do a spellcheck first though before imprinting everything. ;)

Hahahaa good call, Tim. I made about a dozen different ones, thought I'd deleted that one, but guess not. :P

Cindi, I only see one problem with scanning and making a brush. Let̢۪s say that you make a brush on a canvas that is 1024x768 and you scan in your sig and make your brush with that size, if you open your brush and enlarge it later the brush is distorted.

Suggestion, make your brush very large and scale it down so if need be you can scale it back to normal size and it's still clear.

You may want to add a "stroke" in gray or a contrasting color so that the signature doesn't get lost in the image.
