I think Canon has the stupid numbering mechanism. After putting a CF card that was in 300D (without formatting it), my 20D picked up image numbers from the last image number that was taken with Rebel. (It adds about 40,000 shots to my camera right now).

Is there a way that I can set the number back to what it was (I know the number, I just need a way to set it) short of finding a rebel with the same number of shots and using its CF card:-)

I know I can reset the counter, but that's not what I want.

thanks!

First, reset the counter. Then, insert a card where the last (or only) file has the number before the one you want to start with. The camera should start numbering with the next number.

Couldn't you just copy the last image you took with the 20D before the reset onto a CF Card and use it in the 20D to have it start numbering again from that one?

I tried - didn;t work. I'll try Kirbic's suggestion next and let you know.
