Anybody ever send a lens in for disassembly and cleaning? Just curious how much it cost you.

Have some dirty glass or just curious? I have a $100 voucher I got from Canon when I bought my 5D that I was considering using soon. I'm gonna send the body in for a good cleaning.

Kem Rockwell got his 5D cleaned by Canon for free within its warranty period.

Just sayin'. Sorry for not being much help! =D

I'm talking the lens, not the body. My 24-105 has stuff in it and I think it needs to be taken apart.

I talked a guy from Canon tech support, He said average was about $100+S&H. But he also indicated he could not guarantee that..

I had recently purchased a Tokina 80-200 AT-X Pro off of ebay and was disappointed to find streaking on one of the inside elements. Sent it down to THK Photo products (Tokina) for an estimate for disassembly and cleaning and am getting it done for $120 including shipping and a 6 month warranty. They said the lubricant common to all manufacturers has a tendancy of seeping on the inner elements after a few years and a cleaning every 7-10 years is a good idea. They are realigning all of the optics and bringing the lens back to factory standards. As I cannot speak for Canon, I'd suggest the remedy is going to be much the same. For me, it is certainly worth the investment and having a six month warranty made me feel it was a wise decision. Hope that helps.

Canon only cleans your sensor and the mirrors for free, coutersy of Canon, your camera does not need to be under warranty for this. I don't know the cost of disassembly and cleaning, but you can call Canon Factory Service in Irvine, Sounthern CA, their phone number is 949-753-4200

Just an update regarding my Tokina lens and getting it cleaned. Once again, though not Canon, I'd imagine the process would be the same. I just got the lens back and I am floored at how well it works. The optics are perfect and they tweaked the mechanics to what I'd agree to be factory condition. For $120 I'd encourage anyone to get this done. Whether or not they would treat you as well at the other manufacturers repair depot, I don't know but if they do, it is a "slam dunk" no brainer. Now go get all of your lenses cleaned! ;-)

Where I live (southern California), you can walk into the Canon facility in Irvine (Orange Co) and have them clean your sensor for free, while you wait (normally). It's about 20 minutes from my house.
