is there a way to find what the camera originally name the .cr2 file when the picture was taken after i have renamed the file already?
Kodak .dcr files would display the original number in the image's raw info (in PhotoDesk), but i can't seem to find where Canon saves that info, or if it does at all (in DPP).
anyone know if there's a way to find out what it was? |

The EXIF of the CR2 files I have include the following:
Image Serial Number: 000-8363
The part after the hyphen is the original file number, and this is preserved regardless of renaming (from what I can tell).
You might need to use a different EXIF reading application than DPP to see this tag though...

IRFanView has always been fairly reliable, and is a good free standalone image viewer too.
