I found this resource on the Nikon USA website. Tonight while my new D300 battery was charging I spent a couple of hours watching free "mini-tutorials." The ones I watched were very well done. I recommended taking a look if you have the system requirements to view it (it lists the tech requirements on the webpage).
The D3 and D300 sections are new, but they also have other cameras featured. After you select your camera, it takes a few moments for the menu to load.
For the D300 I clicked on "Movies" and then "Movie Tour", which played the clips in succession. You can also use the "open menu" bar on the right and navigate to various topics that way.
I feel like it was a good introduction, even a way to ease into the manual. Go to:
//www.nikondigitutor.com/index_eng.html
Cameras listed: D3, D300, D200, D80, D70s, D70, D50, D40X, D40, & coolpix models (various). They also have a section on the Speedlight Commander Kit which I'll probably look at someday.
Cheers,
