hi there,
i'm looking for another external flash, that i can not only use with my cactus wireless set, but also on the hot shoe of my camera (fuji s3 pro and nikon d50).i have a metz 36AF 3N but it doesn't work on my cameras (only wireless on the cactus receiver), i guess it's because of some old TTL metering?
so i'm looking for a used sigma EF430 and Metz 44AF 4N(i) on ebay.
does anybody use one of these flashes in combination with either the D50 or the S3pro and can tell me about the functionality? or can you recommend a cheap (<130$) flash that would work with my camera(s)? |

| have you looked into the vivitar 285hv? Or the old Nikon flashes? The vivitars are manual but if you know what you're doing, that's not an issue. And they definately work on the camera btw. Or the Sunpak 383 might be a good bet too, i've never used them but heard great things about them. |

TY for the response.
actually i'm looking for a flash, that allows automatic metering, but maybe these are just out of my price range. i've had the vivitar one on my list, seems to be a really powerfull flash, the sunpak's are unfortunately really difficult to get here in europe.
does anyone have an idea why some flashes like the metz 36 Af3 work on some cameras (i.e. the nikon d40) but not with my D50 and fuji s3??? |

could be something to do with the voltages of certain equipment. But this might just blow up the camera if there was a problem.
Maybe it's the hot shoe not aligning with the flash mount? Have you seen if the pins actually line up correctly? If they don't, no flash.
The Vivitars are great fun. A lot bigger unit than I expected but a lot of flash for the money. I got my stuff from B&H and had it shipped over, it could be worth looking at their website and seeing what they can do for you. |

no, i think it has nothin to do with a connection problem, but rather with different ttl metering technologies or something. the camera does show, that it detects the flash, but when you press the shutter the camera refuses to trigger and a red flash symbol starts to blink on the camera display.
i'll have a look at those vivitars, they're manual only, right? |

Yeah manual only for the most part. They do have automatic settings on them though- basically the power dial has some settings on it that you can represented by coloured blocks that are preset for specific distances and powers. Having said that I never use it though and basically put both mine on 1/16th power and change the aperture to suit. Easy peasy.
