...or quality of DPC photos generally has gone down pretty much since last 3-4 months. |

I might have thought so on a few challenges, but I think the Drewmedia entries are top notch. |

Id partially agree with you. The photography is still up there, but the challenge entries are drifting further and further "out of the box", and not in a good way. The DrewMedia challenge entries look practically like a freestudy, so many people shoe horning whatever image they happened to have had laying around, by giving it a title that said something about Drew. |

And you know this, how?
If the image was "laying around", it couldn't have been for long - there are time frames for challenges in which the photo entered must be taken.

By laying around I mean saying - oh theres a challenge and I haven't taken anything that fits for it, but I shot some bumblebees eating eucalyptus trees yesterday, so lets call it "DREW MEDIA BECAME A BEE AND MOVED TO AUSTRALIA, MATE" and submitting it.

Oh wow. There totally is an entry just like that, I didn't even see it until now haha. What a wicked coincidence. |

I didn't mean it the bad way. I check the previous winners past years and I see these wonderful images... now I check the latest winners, although still there are good photos, overall there is a drop (in my opinion) in quality.
Just wondered if others think the same, and why could that be?

I'd wager that rather than the quality going down, your expectations have been raised.
Just my .02. |

I'd probably agree with expectations being raised. I've only been here for a short time, and I can see that my expectations have risen. I've taken some shots that I printed out, and have had people comment on how great they are....I'm thinking "Well, they're not very good at all, if you compare it to some of the work I see online". Personally, I think that's a good thing. This site, and others, are making me strive to get better, and I can already see improvements in my work. |

It has gone up, I am submitting less. :)
I think some of the recent challenges, either through timing or a lack of enthusiasm have had a greater percentage of "shoehorn" shots. On a plus side I do feel I am seeing more good ideas that are just poorly executed. Hopefully those people will stick to it and "grow" into their ideas. It also seems like some of the photographers who have been around for awhile and we've grown used to seeing some of their fabulous work don't submit as much as they used to. I would like to think this is more of a result of their lives being busy rather than losing interest in DPC.

I would agree w/ your expectations are probably higher. I think that in the last 10 months that I have started participating on this site that I have grown as a photographer, because of this site. I take a look at shots I took a year ago that at the time I thought were great and now realize that they are mediocre at best. I think the more I really look at images and learn what works and what doesn't the more I see flaws in my work and in others. That all being said, there are still lots of amazing shots that are entered on this site, and not just the winners of the challenges. I for one am still amazed at the quality of work on this site. This is a site where lots of people come to learn, myself included, so you will see beginners work, not a bad thing but a great thing, imo. I love this place! |
