I don't know why but I thought he was gone years ago... Anyways, my heart goes out to his family. He was a great entertainer.

Damn was it 74, I guess it was, I was sitting on the Twin Falls side for the canyon jump. Ah well, may he rest in peace.

I met him once. He was really suffering. Rest in Peace......

And just for the record, it's Evel, not Evil Knievel. He pointedly used the odd spelling to avoid the "evil" association.

I was a little barn-burner of a kid born and raised on Evel's brand of dare-devilism. I spent a lot of time jumping my bikes off plywood and tire ramps in front of the neighbor's house. I got lucky and got out of childhood with nothing more than a broken finger. Evel fared a bit worse.

One of my childhood icons. Rest in peace.

RIP...

i'll bet youtube is going to be straining a bit, between people uploading/viewing EK videos. talk about an icon...his LA coliseum and his las vegas jump videos are right up there with the agony-of-defeat ski jump guy.

I used to love watching the TV specials on over here in the 70's of his jumps! Was always great fun!

RIP, Evel. He inspired me a lot as an early teen in the 70's. Although I never succeeded in breaking every bone in my body, it wasn't for lack of trying.

He is a legend that cared for his fans. He jumped even when he knew he would not make a successful jump, he did not want to disappoint his fans. I can still remember the Evel Knievel toy motorcycle and action figures and watching him on TV.

RIP Evel K. and prayers go out to his family.

I saw him at the Saugus Speedway when I was a kid. You just stopped breathing once he left the ground until he landed. Wasn't a long time but felt like forever. What a spectacular showman!

Who owned one of these (or a variant) in the 70's? I sure did, loved that toy!

I had the Evel motorcycle! I even went to high school and was a german exchange student with his niece Selena Knievel.

Me! I had a Evel Knievel motorcycle toy as well!

eta: Ah yes, I remember the problem with it. It always used to run out of kitchen floor before doing a wheelie. Still, at least it was realistic when it crashed. ;)

I owned one and I was born in '74.

I sooooooooo wanted to be him when I grew up. Guess my balls weren't big enough.

Looks like Ebay has it all: The toy!

Me me me! I loved that thing!!

I did get to meet him once myself, also (but I was very young). My Dad was into the motorsports, big time! And being a mechanic and knowing Al Unser, allowed him to meet many people of that era and sports world.
RIP Evel.
