Just received my copies of the December 2007 Issue of Digital SLR Magazine UK. They did an incredible job of printing. It is a six page article and it starts by saying occupation: Professional Photographer/Creative Director. Camera: Pentax K10D system.

I think this may be a shot in the arm for the perception of Pentax amongst the professionals. Of the six pages there are five full page images with very little text of which three of the images are shot on the K10D.

Good for Pentax...

Oh..they are sending me two San Disk 4 Giga CF cards...Don't use them and a San Disk Card reader.

Ben

Awesome. Is there an online copy the non-Europeans can look at?

They haven't yet updated for the December 2007 issue. It is sold however in the US. Just ask for Digital SLR Magazine UK. Many of the major Magazine stores have it in stock.

Thanks

I live in South Africa and imported magazines are unfortunately usually sold at fairly exorbitant prices.

I love the British magazine formats. There are a few that I really like to read, but they are so darned expensive in the U.S.

In the '80s, when I was stationed in the U.K. with the Air Force, I became addicted to partworks. The newsagent reserved a fair stack of stuff for me every week. Oh, and Judge Dredd in 2000AD. Love that, too.

Very cool! The pages you've shown us look GREAT!

BTW Why don't you use San Disk cards? (And if you don't want them I could give them a good home... ;)

I've not read this magazine - I got to a point where I took a break from ALL photo magazines and don't remember this one from before that point.

Is it relatively new?

Just got the November issue last week, the December issue should be available in the U.S. probably by the 2nd week of December as usual.

It can be found at Borders in the photography magazine section. Also recently noticed that some Barnes & Nobles have just started carrying it, but in their computer magazine section.

Actually one of the cheaper priced UK published magazines.

Interesting way to 'fall' into a career.

Cool picture on the second page you've posted. Some serious banding happening in the background though, but I assume that's from scanning the page. I see some motion blur on her shoes. Is that Photoshop or some in camera trick? Maybe like having her feet lit by continuous lights and shaking the camera during the exposure - her face would still be sharp if it's only being lit by strobe.

I'm guessing Ben doesn't use the cards because they are CF and the Pentax K10D takes SD.

I agree, the UK mags are so much better. Digital SLR is a good one, I have a few issues of it, but my fav has to be Digital Camera World. That magazine rocks! I hit up Barnes & Noble ever month to check out the new issues. I tend to buy at least one, which is turning into an expensive habit.

I think there is another DPC'ers photo in that mag (Dec issue) I wont say who it is but I am pretty sure its that mag/edition.

Probably not available here in Japan, but I'll have a look out for in Australia next month.

Aah! Good point!
Ben, I'm sure you have some family or friends with cameras using CF - inwhich case you just got their Xmas present sorted!!!

They promised to send me a couple of SD cards so perhaps I may have to give them away to a worthy subject.....lol ;-)

Much as I'd really, really, really like to jump in and say I'm that worthy subject I'm sadly afraid I can't think of any justification for such a claim. I'm not below the poverty line, I'm not an amazing talent ready to wow the world if only I had the equipment, I'm not even a key player on DPC! I'm just a regular person who suffers from the sin of envy! ;)

If you are really looking to give away the CF cards rather than selling them or exchanging them for something you can use, may I suggest you set up some kind of competition or challenge here on the boards, as has been done before for free memberships, and find a worthy recipient?

:)

I keep forgetting to post my question to you - I thought most folks in your line of work used medium format cameras exclusively. Why don't you/why do you prefer a dslr?

I have used all of the formats. I love the mobility of the DSLR format. I hate using tripods. In fact I rarely do. I need to be responsive and able to break rules. The more mobility I have the better the chance of that great accident. If nailed down, forget it. If I am forced to use a larger format, I will, but not before attempting to sell the client on the merits of my present format. If the support requires a larger format I will use one.
