WOOHOO!!! The new firmware fixes the one focus issue I was having.
I never experienced the AI Focus problem that other sports shooters had complained about. Instead, I was having a problem with ONE SHOT mode.
The simplest issue of doing a "focus / recompose" with the Mark III was aggravating me. I could not LOCK FOCUS and have it REMAIN locked, while pointing the camera at something else. It would hold focus for a moment. But I had to be quick. Because about a second after holding the shutter button down, it would decide on its own to re-focus at the new location ... losing the focus I had established.
WELL. The new 1.1.3 firmware fixes it! I just tried it. I tested one last time, before applying the update. Still had the problem. Applied the update. IT'S CURED!!!
Since I never had the AI Servo problem, this was the only thing that was annoying me. But it definitely kept me from seriously using the Mark III for portraits (I still prefer the 5D anyway, but if you can't lock focus, then you can't guarantee the shot will have the appropriate things in focus).
Anyway, I'm a happy camper! :-)

OK I took the plunge and updated mine tonight. Just finished and made sure it still took photos. I'm finishing last nights assignment and hopefully I'll have some time to do some testing.

One big "hurrah" I've heard from several people is that writing to the SD card is now a lot faster.

I wonder if that will fix the problem I've had with my transcend card that would give me errors in the 1DMKIII and would work in the 1DMKIIn and 1DMKI? I'll have to unpack it from the stuff I was going to send it off to the manufacturer for warrenty repair.

| I'll wait for the repair centre to do my upgrade. I am one of those with a focusing issue. Canon have confirmed that my serial number is amongst the affected ones and I am just awaiting a call from them to book the camera in to be fixed. |
