For you Nikon owners, Nikon has released their RAW Codec for Windows Vista.

The Nikon RAW Codec is a free software module that enables you to handle RAW image files (*.NEF: Nikon Electronic Format) under Microsoft Windows Vista with the same ease as JPEG or TIFF images.

edit to add: This latest codec includes support for the D3 and D300 files, among others:

- D1H
- D1X
- D100
- D2H
- D2Hs
- D2X
- D2Xs
- D3
- D200
- D300
- D40
- D40x
- D50
- D70
- D70s
- D80
- COOLPIX 5000

Just a note that this is the updated codec for Vista that includes support for D3 and D300.

That's cool ... although I have no plans to move to Vista.

I think the only practical benefit for me would be the ability to see thumbnails in Windows Explorer. Aside from that I do nothing with my RAW files outside of Bridge/Photoshop.
