Im selling my d40 and its kit lens for a really good price and getting new gear.

I asked for advice3 about the camera body and thanks for that.

As far as a wide zoom lens Ive been reading up on the tamron 17-50 f2.8 XR Di II LD.

It seems like a nice lens for its price.
Do you agree, or have think ive maybe missed a better glass

thanks again for all the advice!

Forget the gear. D40 is a good camera. Get out there and shoot!

I just sold my Tamron 28-75 for the 17-50. Really sharp and takes great shots. Here are a few. THe only reason I sold the 28-75 was because I wanted more of the wide end. A couple examples.

If you enjoy that zoom range you won't be disappointed with this choice. Its not the Nikon 17-55 2.8 but its not the same price either.
My two cents.

Thanks jd, those photos look great. And its looks pretty sharp.
That was my prob with the 18-55 kit lens, i felt like the photos were a bit soft. I noticed the difference with this fisheye i bought.

I had underestimated the sharpness on a recent photo trip and didn't use it too much. It really is sharp, but won't work with your D40 as it has no internal motor. You going for the D80 next?

Hey! I didn't realize I had the high score for that lens. :)

We, uh, won't mention the Canon version's scores. *clears throat*

Get the D200.I just sold my D80 for a D200. Much better camera.
The D80`s matrix metering sucks.

do you notice a noise difference at high ISO's between the two? just curious

I have the Tamron 17-50 and am really happy with it. It's pretty solidly built and is remarkably sharp for the price.

I find my D50 handles noise a bit better than my D200. Both right out of the camera and once I do some editing to the file. But when i am walking around the city I use all ISOs up to 1600. I realize taking a properly or slightly overexposed image really helps.

Did the same switch last week on my Canon, will never ever look back at the kit lens.
