I'm on the D300 waiting list at my local store but I'm getting tired of hearing "Late December" as I watch the cameras arrive South of the border.

B&H has cameras in stock and I could have it shipped up here for almost $200 less than it will cost me to buy it locally.

Car manufacturers screw Canadians who shop across the border by refusing to honor warranties; Will Nikon do the same to me?

yes they can & do
your warranty is not valid in Canada only USA IF any thing breaks you would have to send it south - on the other hand CND warranty is valid for 2yrs

Not cool...
They can get shipments to the border states but yet the jump across the border apparently take 2 weeks longer and costs $200.

If you import the camera from B&H, don't you have to pay GST/PST on it anyway? Wouldn't that eat up much of your savings?

From B&H
$1799.95 Sub-total
41.50 Shipping
110.49 GST
$1951.94 Total

From "The Camera Store" D300 link
$1929.95 Sub-total
115.80 GST
$2045.75 Total

My Calculations were off, only saving about $100. But still...

Henry's just dropped their prices on much of their camera equipment because of the dollar doing better than the US dollar. Here's the D300 for 1869.99. With GST, that's 1,982.19. Shipping to Alberta is free (plus you bums don't have to pay provincial sales tax). So that's your total cost

The B&H website says this when you try to calculate shipping on the D300:

"Due to the manufacturer̢۪s restrictions, B&H Photo is unable to ship this item to an international destination: We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you."

Nice to know there's a few places in Canada with them in stock, also really good to see company's reflecting the increase in our dollar in there prices, that's something that I haven't seen a whole lot of yet.

I would definitely stay away from the US importing option due to no honoring of warranties.

Canon warranties covers USA/Canada models whether you are in the USA or Canada. The warranty cards have USA AND Canada on them.

Also remember that if you import from the States, you'll be slapped with a ridiculously large expediting fee from the shipper (UPS or FedEx or Purolator), unless it's Canada Post. That'll blow whatever you save on the camera.
