I decided to start this thread to share some recipe ideas, or your favorite holiday dishes...
One of my favorites and one that is demanded is Apple Granola bars.
easy to make and its different from the traditiona deserts, and can be eaten for a morning snack.
preheat oven to 350
GRANOLA: 1 CUP FLOUR
1 CUP QUICK OATS
2/3 CUP BROWN SUGAR
1/4 TEASPOON BAKING SODA
1/2 CUP MARG OR BUTTER SEMI-SOFT
FILLING: 2 MEDIUM APPLES
2 TABLESPOON SUGAR
2 TABLESPOON WATER
1 TABLESPOON LEMON JUICE
1/2 TEASPOON GROUND CINNAMON
DASH OF GROUND CLOVES
FILLING: peel core and dice 2 medium apples, about 10 ounces, In a medium saucepan combine apples, 2 tablespoon sugar, 2 tablespoon water, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and a dash of ground cloves. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, simmer for 8-10 min, or until apples are very tender.
GRANOLA: (while the apples are cooking) In a mixing bowl, combine flour oats, brown sugar, and baking soda. Cut in butter till mix resembles coarse crumbs. Researve 1/2 cup of the flour mix, Press remaining flour mix in the bottom of a ungreased 9x9x2 inch pan. Spread with the apple mix, Sprinkle the remaining flour mix over apples.
BAKE: in oven for 30-35 minutes or untill the top is golden. Cut into bars. Makes 25.
If you need to double this, you can, but I recommend making two different pans, too much for a 9x13. ENJOY!!
