Kudos to those of you that enter one or two pictures a week - how do you do it?
As a 'happy snapper' I took pleasure in seeing a good opportunity and snapping away. This site asks more than that and asks members to go out and take a specific picture, I'm sure it is making the photography world a better place.
As for my submission, I was going to enter a similar picture for 'things that go together' but I didn't think the picture was good enough, then I thought if I don't enter soon I never will. I'm not expecting much from my first submission other than some stiff critique and hope not be the bottom of the pile.
Looking forward to seeing comments on my submission (I think)

Awww, it's not lonely at the bottom of the pile. Join the crowd! We nearly all land there once in a while. |

I started very near the bottom - have not got a ribbon yet nor do I hope to in near future but the whole thing is a lot of fun

Yes, we all have to start somewhere, and a low starting point allows for greater improvement!
I was going to swop my original submission with this but figure there will be loads of bark in this challenge? 26cms top to pot.

Should I have swapped the pictures? well, yes and no. My submission was my first attempt at creating a specific scene and to be honest when I look at it now I wouldn't give it the 3.9 its got thus far!.
Yes I should have swopped because the above is a much better photograph and no I'm glad I left it as its something to remind me of how much better I've become.
It realy is an awfull picture but at least I submitted something.

I too have submitted for the first time. I really like my picture and it's getting good reviews so far, but it's not terribly original. Fits the theme, though. And it's weird seeing another half dozen images from people who had the same idea. It's taken me three or four months to actually submit something. I agree it's all in good fun and plenty of opportunity to learn from the feedback of others. With so many entries in this challenge, getting comments won't be easy. I've gotten three so far and am grateful for that! |

Very true. I started at the bottom (like very bottom) and I have slowly started to climb up the ladder a bit. Rung -by-rung, step-by-step, but hey, it's worth it, because I have seriously grown as a photographer, in fact, I can njow consider myself a photographer without embarrassment anymore.

Ah, but at the time I felt it was a good picture, loads of texture and really met the challenge. It was one of my first pictures with my new cam and at the time of submitting I liked it. Seeing it now I realise that whilst it had potential to score highly, technically it was lacking. I'm here to learn and have done so.

Yup, its good to learn :)
134 votes and still hanging in on a 4.1 with my entry. Oh, and I was right there is plenty of bark but I feel my shot above would mix it with the rest.

i try very hard to come up with an original idea for every challenge i participate in... i remember once for the "round" challenge i was considering submitting a photograph of the moon... luckily, i didn't.... there were just so-o-o-o-o-o many moon pictures!

I know how you feel, its one thing to take a good picture, another to 'meet the challenge' yet more thought to please many people and then you have to try and be original all in all its a great place to be :)
I've had 12 comments on my entry thus far and all have been helpfull. I may even reshoot the picture later to see if I have actually learnt anything.
As for the moon, my 6" Newtonian 1400-150 arrived today so beware!. If only I knew how to use it lol

my first submission too... pretty interesting! the rating system is tough though. i guess from school i'm used to the idea that 7 is average 8 good... you get it. if that were true here i'd just have to admit to failure!!! hanging in just under a 5 for now.
guess i better go have a drink... ; ) |

well in my books 5 is good lol. I reckon my bonsai pic above would have scored in the fives but my submission is struggling at 4.09. Mind you, it should be easier to improve on that.
This is all exiting to us newbies, best of luck to you and we are yet to see the final results and if 5 is good.

I just made my second pass on this one. So many entries. I bumped up a few also. This one will take at least two more passes. I'll try to comment as much as possible. |

You have rated 374 of 411 images (91%) in this challenge from 3 sittings and only made 1 comment, I'll comment on others after I've finished voting.
Looking forward to your (constructive) comments ;)

Funny, it's my first time too and while I knew I wasn't going to win, I was a little surprised by my low score. At least until I read some other comments and looked at other challenges. Now I see anything better than a 5 is good, heh heh.
(although I haven't quite made it to 5 yet,lol)
I promise my next entry will be much better... or at least funny :) |
