I was just looking for some people who may be going to the SSA V on March 5-9. Any of you planning on going? It's $475 for full-time students and $575 for working professionals. I was looking to share a hotel room or something as well since it's $109/night for a hotel room for SSA participants.

I mentioned it to my wife that I wanted to go.

Everything hinges on the strike.

I think that you are going to have a hard time getting someone to go with you for a few reasons.

You have not been a member very long. You have not participated in any challenges, the threads that you have joined are mostly small talk. One that stands out is a GTG in NY, where you said that it was close to your home town but you wouldn’t be able to make it.
You also started the same thread at least 3 time’s, 2 of which had the exact same title and were both locked down. Might I also add that you are only 19.

My suggestion is that you get more familiar with the group here. You are a stranger in a friend’s area and you stick out like a soar thumb. If you are looking for someone to split the bill with you on a hotel room, ask a local friend, girlfriend, relative, or call mom and dad and let them know you need company or money.

Good luck and put that 20D you have to some good use.

I would remind posters to assume good faith. He's been here since April, and though not a frequent poster, he's entitled to ask a question (once) without getting the cold shoulder.

Wow! Talking about getting up on the wrong side of the bed! Based on your harsh reply, it wouldn't surprise me if he never entered a challenge or join in any conversation.

Chill, dude! (and may I suggest some good reading for you)

By the way, Jared, frankly I'm embarrassed by the response you have gotten. Pay no mind to it. On the otherhand, please be considerate and follow basic forum guidelines--not just DPC guidelines, but for any online forum.

Feel free to "bump" this thread periodically between now and SSA. I live in Orange Co, so I won't need accommodations if I attend. Good luck and enjoy this forum as well as the conference.

Actually, several of us have met Jared. He suggested a Pittsburgh GTG and it turned out to be a great time for a lot of us who met up at McConnell's Mill State Park. He may not be one of the more vocal posters here, but he's not some trouble-making noob.

Thanks guys! I actually was given this membership generously by John Erdovegi. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to participate in the challenges since I just started college at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and when I'm not doing that I'm working at one of my two jobs trying to fund this trip while still holding a 3.4GPA.But I've seen it really help photographers become better and more diverse so I will definitely be entering some soon.

But I have been a member of many online forums so I understand the rules. The only reason I posted twice was so that members and non-members could view and post about it(hence "member-discussion" and "out and about"). But I will make sure to post one thread next time.

But thanks for the continued support. I really appreciate it! Nick, I sent you a PM!

I'll put in another good word for Jared, and not just because I was mostly responsible for him being rushed to an emergency room (food poisoning) at the McConnell's Mill GTG this summer, and he graciously chose not to sue my butt off.

He's a good guy, and is very sincere in his quest for photographic knowledge. If anyone takes him up on his offer to get together at this conference, you won't find that he's too much of a whacko :)

And I just saw him 10 minutes ago here at Heinz Field, and can vouch for the fact that he keeps himself busy enough that it would be hard for him to participate much more here.

I had dismissed it as "I can't afford that stuff," without really thinking about it every time I saw it mentioned on the site, but I just read up on it and I think attending is a much better investment than the camera gear I would probably buy with the same money.

I'm not a full time student so I'll have to pay more, but it's way cheaper than a 'real' education. I could probably drive there, it's about two medium days or one really long one.
