I received this message from my portfolio on flickr and wondered if I could get your input on this one:

"Amazing shot. I have grown up around greyhounds a lot of my life. I now work for a print company. I have been looking for the “perfect shot” to do a 8 piece art photo for a wall in my living room. Size will end up being 3 ft x 6ft. I would be honored if I might use your photo to do this. What im asking is if it is possible to get a large format copy of this photo and your permission to use it once for this project. Also was wondering if you had it in B&W & in color? If you except I will be more than happy to send a photo to you of the piece when it is finished"

Thanks
Jaime

Sorry for this being massively off topic, but your website doesn't seem to work properly in Firefox for me. Everything is there, but the background comes up as white so I can't see you links, I only found them by doing a select all on the page. Seems to work ok in IE tho. Thought you should know.

Seems they trying to get something for free. Up to you to either send them a file or ask for compensation.

Same for me in FF; white type on white BG.

As for the image, he wants to hang your art on his wall and not compensate you for it? It's up to you of course whether you want to accommodate him, but I wouldn't. On basic principles, PLUS who knows if it's just a scam to get the hi-res file so he can market it himself?

Even IF he agreed to pay you, sending the file means you lose control of your image from that point on. It's not something you do for anyone except reliable, commercial end-users whom you can trust; magazines, for instance.

Does he want the prints from you or the digital files? Large Format Copy may mean a print? Naturally someone may scan a large print and put it together too but sending a digital file would make things too easy and wouldn't send those to anyone (except SC for Validation or DPCPrints) . Could you sell him the prints already framed (working together to choose something you both like), and bill him the cost of prints + whatever you wish to profit?

Just say how flattered you are that he likes your image and send him a link to the page where he can purchase it.

Offer to sell him a print. Mark the price accordingly, if he doesn't accept, he didn't like the image THAT much. No loss for you.

Thanks all for the advice. I appreciate your input very much. I sent him a reply with an offer of a print for a price. Lets see if he is still interested. :)
