This Friday is my grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary and all of their friends and family is going to be at a formal party to celebrate this great achievement (fifty years is more time than I can even think about!)

Anyway, they have asked me to take photos for them. They asked for group portraits of the family in various arrangements (w/ sons and daughters, grandchildren, etc.). I also will probably take some photos of the party and guests (think wedding reception). I have taken photos at a couple weddings before so I do have a little experience at this. The photos will be taken in their church sanctuary and I am afraid that the lighting will be terrible, off colored, etc.

I was just wondering if any of you could give me a few pointers towards setting up composition of formal group portraits and tips on achieving good lighting in an artificially lit room. I don't want to screw it up, this is important to them!

Equipment I will have:

Canon 350D
50mm f/1.4 USM
75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III
18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II
430EX Speedlite
tripod
