I actually read the agreement for entering that and it says that kodak has the right to use this photo for anything it wants.
So, by entering the contest you just gave kodak a free photo right?

Im guessing its like that with other photo contests too, right?

Yes, that's how most contests work.
They don't get an exclusive licence though, so you can still still use your photograph for whatever you want. You have to decide whether giving away one photograph is worth the chance of it being seen with your name by thousands.
