It could be a configuration setting or something simple. On the other hand, it could be a virus. Which browser and what version (and what operating system (PC, Mac, Linux, etc.)?
On the assumption that it's a virus, do you practice "safe surfing"? In other words, do you use anti-virus and anti-spyware software, and more importantly, to you update it regularly (like once a week)?
If you are on a PC (Windows), download the Windows Defender anti-spyware program (it's free).
If you have kids that use your computer, keep track of where they go and prevent them from going to "questionable" sites, where they could pick up viruses, trojan horses, and spyware. A good program to use is the free Live OneCare Family Safety.
