I would very much like to purchase a point and shoot. I've found a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS70 PL-S 7.2 Megapixel Camera on eBay for $80 + shipping. Husband said I can spend $120. So I guess my question is... if you had +/- $120 and needed a point and shoot, which one would you buy?... and why is this Panasonic 7.2 so cheap? Sounds like a 'too good to be true' to me.
Am I better off waiting a little longer and saving up more money...?

Sounds like a very good deal. Perhaps it is used. Steve's digicams liked it,here's a link: //www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/ls70.html
I bought a couple of 5 Mp Nikon L3's a week or two ago, and thought that was a good amount of camera for that money. Your find sounds like a better camera for the same $$.
You might also look at the Canon A series. I've heard a lot of good about those. As a user of a more sophisticated SLR, you would probably like a P&S that has a good amount of manual control. The Canon SX100 looks like a capable compact as well, almost a stripped down version of the S5 that I use, but it's $300.

hmmmm... tempting, but I think I'll go for the Panasonic.
Thanks Steve for the input. I feel better about getting it after reading the review. I actually got a chance to bring one home the other night to use and really like it. The guy that let me borrow it is selling it for $120. I'm considering paying the extra $30 or so bucks for the security of knowing what I'm getting. |

For the extra $30, I agree. Actually, when you consider the cost of shipping the EBay purchase, the price difference will be more like $20-25.
I presume you are looking for this to have something easy to take around with you everywhere you go?

exactly... plus the Nikon D80 is not really mine. I talked my boss into buying it so I could take pictures of campus for the web page. He lets me sneak it out :)
But yeah, I need something of my own that I can carry around all the time. |
