Lets say we hold a challenge and the only way to enter would be to commit to "donating" an item with a minimum purchase price or value. We would then break up the items into a percentage the blue getting 1/2 of the items and the second and third place taking a share of what's left. The winner would be able to make their picks of the items from a list until he/she completed their share of the winnings as would the 2nd and 3rd place winners. Can we do something like this? I think it would be kind of cool. Or has this been suggested already and the last member was lynched for it? Should I get some rope?

Just make it a cash entry fee, and split up the winnings. Also, people can pay or bet on who votes, and take a piece of the pie if their votes are for the winners.

Blackjack and Texas Hold'em too!

Actually, I wonder if it is legal to have a cash entry fee, and pay a cash prize to the top 3. They are always advertising for them in the magazines.

The day they start doing either of these things is the day I leave DPC. The fact that we vie for virtual ribbons and not cash or other prizes is what makes this a fun place. There are many other sites where you can compete for other things.

With all the cheating that goes on now to get a "Virtual Ribbon" think of how much cheating will happen when cash or prizes get involved. Also think about the lynching SC will receive if they DQ an image and God forbid the user thinks he done everything legal.

Well, it would certainly reduce the entries, who would pay just to take part? Am also thinking there are many legal hoops to jump through to have 'real' prizes. I'm with Barbara on this one.

i think there are a number of 'art' or contest sites that play this game for profit ..

"i will hold a contest the entry fee is 25$ for three images, jim bo the famed art critic will judge (my second cousin twice removed recently released for larceny) the winning [strike]chumps[/s] artists will have their image displayed on our "well publicized web site" for a number of days or until the money runs out "

if my memory serves me correctly, dpc does not offer money or prizes because that is another whole bunch of legal "stuff" to go through

Pretty much the response I thought I'd get. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to tarnish DPC this is and always will be my favorite site. I was just curious that's all.
