Hi all,
i have a Canon 400d with the standrd kit lens 18-55mm. I have since purchased a couple of other cheap lenses but feel its time to purchase something a little better. I have a budget of about £250. I take a range of photos from landscapes to portraits Anyone recomend a good quality lens
Thanks in advance for all your help

I'm in the same situation as clipper and I'm thinking about getting a Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 SP XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF].
Got a fairly good review at PhotoZone.de.
Anyone with experience with this lens?

Canon 60mm f/2.8 EF-S macro; super sharp, also great portrait lens.

I can't speak to the Tamron, but I have the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 which is also a great lens. I will say that I own the Tamron 18-250 and a Sigma 50mm macro as well and, in my opinion, the build quality of the Sigma is far superior to the Tamron. The Tamron seems more plasticy, and the lens barrel travels much more than in the two Sigmas I own, which seem much more solid to me. Could just be that Tamron, however.
(The Tamron 18-250 is a good lens for travel, or just traveling light, but I don't find it superior to my Pentax 18-50 kit lens in anything but focal range -- not one I'd recommend for your present needs) |
