Oh oh...

I see a lot of does not meet the challenge due to not being a "three dimensional surface." :)

Comments?

combine that with light and we're talking shadows...

i dont understand this textures 2 challenge. does the 3 dimensional surface need to have texture or the light and shadows that is formed in the picture considered to be the texture??

Without light producing a shadow your eyes would not able to see textures. Something as simple as a closeup of a pair of jeans would do nicely, as long as you make the composition interesting.

In my opinion it absolutely would (apart from the fact that it is taken outside the challenge dates LOL). And I would give it a very high rating as well. Great picture.

Theres no rule that says that I can't take the photo again! :) Its right above the door to my apartment. Actually, I just took a photo minutes ago and made it ready for submission :)

I'm gonna have to remove the old photo from my portfolio now, I can't have it on the forum since a new version of it is gonna be part of the challenge.

Remember the unwritten rules of anoymity of a photographer of a particular image, but you can put it in your workshop to hide it.

Only if you live in some parallel-universe where things have a height and width but no depth. I mean come on, I think you'd have a hard time coming up with examples of a "2D object". Even this piece of smooth glossy paper has "depth", and at high magnification, has a visible texture.

One dictionary defines "texture" as A measure of the variation of the intensity of a surface, quantifying properties such as smoothness, coarseness and regularity. I think you'll agree that there are multitude of objects that can provide a "texture". I wouldn't recommend a highly-polished laboratory-grade first-surface mirror, but even so, it is still "3D"!

'Smoothness' is a quality of texture too - though I wouldn't recommend that as a theme for an entry, it'll get murdered in the voting.

Agreed. Smoothness was my "first-surface mirror" example (which I said I wouldn't recommend). I think "lack of smoothness" will definitely be key in this challenge. =]

I am sincerely hoping that most DPCers see it your way

Texture I and Texture II... some differences? I think are the same, but the challenge details are differents.

Thanks in advance,

I would say that 'Textures II' is similar in concept to the first 'Texture' challenge (even though the details are different) in that the you are supposed to capture a texture. =]

Will someone be kind and post the URL for Texture I challenge...

Finding old challenges is pretty easy from the "Challenge History" report. Select it from the "Challenges" menu, then bring up the "Find" dialog with Ctrl-F, type in "Texture" and hit [Enter]. There you are. But if you want to take the easy way out, you can just click here. Although this challenge was done quite a while ago (July, 2002), it is still interesting to see the type of shots that placed high compared to those that only did so-so...

Thanks for the link - for some reason the History page did not load completely when I last tried it and I presumed that the history was incomplete...

And good that I looked, I was already thinking about a strawberry, peacock feather, Ropes, sea shells...

Damn my most novel idea remaining I have already exhausted..

302 entries so far, that the most since Still Life at 326. Probably more to come. Gonna be a good one IMHO.

With the amount of entries it is going to take quite a while to rate them all. Clearing my calender now...
02/17/2004 06:32:17 PM · #23
Looks like there's gonna be a new record number of entries.
02/17/2004 06:33:36 PM · #24
It will be really hard to rate all those entries. We will need more than one week to do it.
