Have submited mine.

Sadly, I do not think I have managed the best from the image under Basic Editing, playing with advanced editing after the challenge may help it!

But DPC is not only about personal satisfaction. I hope others may appreciate it sufficiently to reward the effort.

Can not wait for the voting to start.

As long as I break a 4 with my photo, I'll be okay.

I ran out of time, and just took a semi-crappy photo. Well I was recreating a photo I once took, but wasn't able to do it in the timeframe I gave myself. I made a pledge to myself to enter every challenge. So I had to.

I actually like my Textures entry which in itself is an achievement for me. Only one thing bothers me.... I think I like the thumbnail better than the full picture =) go figure!

I didn't enter this time because I was out of crackers!!
My old entry from 2002, that didn't do well but I still like it.

Like you, I entered on Tuesday. Good luck to all, both in the challenge, and the challenge of getting thru all the entries... 396 as of this posting.

Getting creamed already. I knew I would. Contrary to what the masses believe, texture is not necessarily bumpy, fluffy or rough.

took about 2 hours to vote on them all. I commented on just over 20%.
Half of them (my commented ones) seem to be bad macro shots. To me, bad is when 2/3 of the pic is not in focus.
At least 90% are obviously 'testure' related. An improvement.
Several flowers, 2 cats, 3 or 4 reptiles, lotsa birds, jeans, catci, oranges, and strawberries. One horse. One sorta sunset.
At least my entry has none of the 'cliche's'.

And lastly, I think I vote too high...5 is average. To get below 5 from me then the pic has to be off topic, technically bad, very boring (snapshot like, etc). To get 7 or more it has to be a nice pic, one suitable for framing. This time through I think I managed 1 8, 6 or so 7s and the rest less. Overall good entries, just nothing outstanding. (excpet mine of course - LOL)

A texture occurs in a photograph because of the interaction between light and a three dimensional surface. Use this information to make the viewer "feel" the appearance of your subject.

Haven't voted on but about 10% so far, but so far, I'm not "feeling" much. A couple have stood out, but while a lot show something that can obviously relate to texture, not so many really evectively communicate the texture. And I totally agree with you Chris - when the purpose is to show off texture, having 2/3 (or more in some cases) of the picture out of the focal plane just doesn't acheive the effect I'm looking for. Hopefully, I just got a bad first bunch. But you're post isn't too encouraging...

My sentiments exactly - I am heading for my lowest score am at 4.5 after 23 votes and falling.

And 411 entries voted in 120 mins - must be a speed voting record

Wonderful example of understatement, now is understatement a figure of speech?

Well, I've voted on 87 images (21%)in the past hour, and I'm on dialup. Some really nice shots, but nothing exceptional. So far, I have given one "9", several 8's and 7's but by far more 6's and 5's. I tend to vote a bit high as well - generally if it fits the challenge and is in focus and well composed, it gets at least a 4 from me. I have given one three so far - but that's usually about as low as I go unless I really feel that the photograph was intended to be offensive.

Think I'll wait until I'm in a better frame of mind before I vote. At least until I get a coffee in me. Who else is below 5 (closer to 4 actually)? lol
