I've been running the eval copy of Lightroom and I'm wondering about my workflow and the use of keywording with this application.

I'm thinking I may be wasting my time on keywording for future reference (if I end up keeping Lightroom as my RAW conversion choice).

Currently I move photo files from the CF card to a folder on my PC harddrive (have a date ordering format that works for me). Now with LR I do an import from that folder, enter keywords, rate the files, and delete the throwaways.

As I need space on my local harddrive periodically I copy files to a DVD, then move the local files to an external drive for longterm storage.

Moving files (from local to external drive) at some later point, that I've imported to LR earlier, is going to break the LR library linkage isn't it. :-/

Would it work to move the files to the external drive by using the LR GUI, thereby maintaining the library links?

Just kind of thinking out loud here...feedback appreciated. Thanks!

I move files from my harddrive to my external all the time. as far as lightroom is concerned when you move a folder it will show up in red (to tell you it cant find the files if you right click on that folder in lightroom you will have the option to 'find missing files' you can then just find the folder in it's new location, keeping all the lightroom information.

hope that helps

Thanks. Can you right-click on an existing folder in LR and "move" it to another location on your harddrive?

I'd check myself but my eval period ran out last night and I forgot to pursue this. I'm waffling on whether to invest the $300 for this...

Thanks again.
