Hi
I was thinking about getting an 85mm 1.2 To add to my collection of
Lenses.
I shoot weddings and Portraiture Mainly, but my First Love I think is wildlife Photography and One Day I would love a 400 f2.8 but that is dreamland at the Moment.
At Present I own
EF50mm i.4
EF 100 Macro f2.8
EF 40 -70mm f2.8
EF 70 - 200 f2.8 IS USM
I am unsure as what I have is Good enough so I need some advice as to wetherthe 85 is too close to the 50mm 1.4 and the 100 Macro
Help Please
Cheers.
Judo Joe

| Great lens on the 5D, get it. Better aperture than your 100mm, better length than your 50. |

I have not shot with it, so not speaking from experience... all reports indicate it is a great lens, then again for nearly $2k USD, it well should be. As far as optical quality, your 50/1.4 and 100/2.8 macro are definitely good enough... what they don't provide is that super-narrow DoF that f/1.2 will give you. 85mm is not all that much different from either 50mm or 100mm, but if you really need that DoF control and speed, then perhaps it's for you.
Another option is the 135/2.0L, which also gives very narrow DoF and is perhaps the sharpest Canon prime outside the super-telephotos. Also a *lot* more affordable than the 85/1.2. |
