I like it as an example of depth of field, negative space and shapes.

The exposure is really pretty nasty though - its under exposed and has a pretty yellowy 'white balance' cast.

Sorry Gorden, I hadn't done any modifications to it (here it is with a quicky adjustment)....

I like that!
I'll have to keep an eye out for some cool marbles and try different shots myself.

I like what I entered. Sadly I must be the only one. :( My score is on a free fall.
It was a fun challenge just the same.

Rejected.

uh huh .. but the blue thing at the end, is to me the most interesting part : ) .. for some reason it makes me wonder what it actually is ...

Personally, i might try making the DOF even shallower .. might make it even more mysterious ~_~ ...

I figured everybody would have really hammered it.

another way to get really shallow DOF is close focus at full zoom with a 75-300. Can be really really shallow :) . .

i like the marbles but actually preferred with the warm color cast. it added some emotion to it, which to me was removed with adjustment.

just my own personal take : )

yup. my entry is prolly tanking for reasons similar to why yours is. similar treatment of dof : ) .. nice shots with the backlighting, just the same

These are two images I was considering for this challenge. However, the write up on the challenge suggested to me that a more creative use of shallow DOF was wanted than purely using it to isolate the subject.

Looks like I misread it by the way my submission is heading.

i think so, too. it's a bit disorienting because i dont automatically pick up the intimacy of my perspective ... it's like i am on an alien planet : ) -- which is cool, but i just dont see dpc as the alien planet crowd for some reason : )

ohh i like this alot. it's great as is, OR you could widen the DOF just a hair to get 'ren' in the focus plane .. ?? dunno, just thinking out loud ... : )

Originally posted by jenesis:

This was one of my ideas, went a totally different way though. I just couldn't get the focus sharp enough on this...

Why so nshapiro?
(a song in the making)

Because people might be giving away which shot is theirs (at least by subject). Not saying anyone did, but even if it hasn't happened already, it could.

Anyway, I really like all of the outtakes. it will be interesting to see comparisons after the challenge. I mentioned before in a different thread, that I must have shot 600 pictures before I settled on the one I entered. I have a ton of outtakes...don't worry, I won't post them all.

Rather "Shallow" depth of field I'd say! Too bad it didn't say that in the print... you would have nailed it in my book.
