I saw this same question yesterday when I was browsing through the forum. Now I have a very bad cold, so I must be too high on NyQuil, because I can't find the thread and the answer to this question.
So I apologize for asking again.
Are we supposed to do all 4 elements or can we do just one?
Thanks,
Fan.

Any one, or any combination. However, there's no telling whether the voters will prefer a single one or a combination. |

The challenge says
''Create an image representing your choice of Earth, Air, Fire, or Water''
so you have a choice of earth, air, fire or water, of course I dont see a problem with a combination of any 2, 3 or all 4.

There again....
Create an image representing your choice of Earth, Air, Fire, or Water.
...could well mean you can only use one???

I'd say the winner(s) will have at least three of the four elements, not because that would mean a better image, but because that's the way people vote. I don't think a minimalist approach to this challenge will be well received by the average voter, however refreshing that might be.

Initially that's what I thought too. On second thought, having more than one shouldn't be a problem... only speaking for myself.

nahhh a cat smelling a flower that has a bug on it, at sunset...
all 4 there right?
I'm thinking a water drop shot would do it as well... *chuckles*
All kidding aside, I'm not going to think about what voters will like.
I'm getting back into it, so I know from the get go I won't score very high. Fun is the word of the day for me...
Besides, I never did do what everyone wanted... hmmmm ...

I was thinking about rounding up the band, Earth, Wind and Fire, having them play some songs in a rainstorm whil I shoot photos. That should cover all 4.

I have a belief that there are a large number of voters who never read the details: so they'll presume the challenge is to depict the four elements ... thus they'll vote down anything that doesn't show all four.
However, I've been trying to second-guess the 'voters' for ages, and with no notable success, so listen to me at your peril.

I agree, people will most likely vote higher one the photo that will have all 4 included. At first, I wanted to comply, which is why I asked the question in the first place...
But the more I think about it...
I'm here again to get back into photography, and having a challenge helps me get over the "white page" syndrome. So Imma do whatever comes out of my twisted mind, may it be 4, 2 or just one...
Fan.

If I don't see lightning striking a baboons butt in a tornado on a hillside in the rain with a forest fire creeping down on him, I'll be pretty upset. Thats for sure. |
