woohooooo!
doing the happy dance!
How long does the battery take to charge? Now I'm waiting again!
I have a friend sending an extra battery home with hubby tomorrow morning. I'll have 2 batteries for our camping trip this weekend.
This this camera is HUGE! Going to feel like I'm carrying a monster for a while.
I even went out and bought a new camera bag. Will add a lens a month- only 2 more I really want to get before Christmas but hubby told me to pick one.

congrats on the new equipment, and have fun this weekend!!
I am patiently awaiting my pre-ordered 300. Ok, not patiently, but ya know I gotta try to look patient :)
I am heading out of the house here in a few minutes to pick up my 70-200 2.8. My daughter is playing in a state soccer tourney Saturday and I can't wait to play with the lens! |

You will love the camera. Keep your eye on your 18-200mm lense it is prone to zoom creep although it is a wonderful lense for what it can do.
Best of luck with your trip and post lots of photos when you get back.
BTW I don't know what you are using for memory but I have found the SanDisk Extreme IV to be well worth its salt. It has no trouble what-so-ever keeping up to our camera speed.
Hope you enjoy your new camera.
MAX!

The battery is charged. Now I need a textbook to figure out how to set everything. My Olympus I had down to a science- took me a good 3 months to remember it all. Everything was pretty much written out for me ON the camera. This so much different.
So after my daughter goes to bed tonight I'm going to go through the manual. Hubby has duty tonight so I have the whole night to mess around with it with in peace.
Thanks for the heads up on the lens Quigly. Had I read everything you'd written about it before I ordered it last week, I probably would have gone with something else. I had posted asking about it, but quite a few loved it. I'll be buying another lens next month hopefully so I'll probably be posting to ask what to get again. |

If you're talking about the 70-200 2.8 VR, I concur. It's magic. You're never going to put up with a lower-level lens again. It's the only lens I've used where 100% crops are still sharp.

i would say do not touch the manual for a little while. Just take the camera and go through every menu and every setting yourself and try them out, do this multiple times. Then after a week of doing that, if you still want to read the manual, do it. Doing this will give you a MUCH better understanding of the camera and how to go through everything. It will also speed up the process of getting everything down to a "science" |

I love this camera. It's effortless. I can fly through setting changes so easily.
I spend a good buck on it, and haven't had enough for that 18-200mmVR. I'd love to get that for christmas!
This camera needs a power plant!! If you take long exposures like I do, you have to charge that battery every session. But the battery is good for a good 5 hours of continuous shooting in the day.
Enjoy your new machine, congrats.

What fun! You'll love it and find it easy to learn. Almost every adjustment you will want to make is availblabe with a button so you seldom need the menu.
Have fun.

I seriously need some help lol. I knew it was going to be a steep learning curve going from an entry level to prosumer, but I am totally lost. I can turn it on, I can take a picture in Auto. I don't want to take pictures in Auto. That's so booooooooooring.
But I'm looking through the manual and I can't figure out how to change the shutter speed or aperture lol.

Press mode go to "A" Apeture mode or "S" for shutter mode. The letter will show on the display on top. Press shutter release halfway and use dial in front to adjust Aperture.
