2 hours of editing down and now photoshop won't save my image (at all!).

It says I don't have enough RAM (I have 1.5GB... but I'm assuming what I'm trying to save is going over that).

The only two processes I have going basically are explorer and photoshop. Photoshop is using 800mb and the rest is system stuff...

No matter what I do, flattening, resizing, or whatever to try and reduce the amount of memory required for the file, photoshop refuses to save... any ideas?

Make sure your scratch disk isn't full. Empty your recycle bin.

Scratch disk is a possibility I guess, how do I check that?

Photoshop does say RAM however, not drive space or scratch disk.

Menu item "Edit / Preferences / Plug-ins and scratch disks"

That's in the CS version, not sure if it's the same in whatever version you're on. And as far as I know, PS treats the scratch disks as a kind of extended memory space. So the error message you're seeing might not be entirely accurate!

Make a new layer via copy, then "Save As"
That will save as a psd. PS will somehow always save a psd - BTDT.
After rebooting, open your psd and keep going or save properly.
If you are running Vista, pop in a 1-2GB CF Card, choose Memory Boost, use the whole card if need be and that can pull you out of the problem also.

sorry for hte side track to the OP but how doyou actually select your cf card to act as extra memory, i found no way to do it manually int he control panel or anywhere. it used to come up as an available option when id plug in the cf card into the computer, but not anymore

Start (Orb) > Computer > right click on your CF choose Properties > ReadyBoost tab there is a check box
